Email Management – mounting madness?
Research carried out by the Universities of Glasgow and Paisley have discovered that one third of email users get stressed by the heavy volume of e-mails they receive. If marketing emails are to get read at all by stressed out recipients also bombarded by texts, Twitter, RSS and instant messaging, then timing your mailouts is critical!
Sometimes it appears that the earth is spinning out of control! Deskbound office behaviour regularly throws up reports of employees spending more time typing than talking to each other, i.e. sending e-mails to colleagues who were just one desk away, rather than actually speaking directly with them.
With over 170 billion emails now being sent daily around the globe – two million every second – according to technology market research groups , it was found that many email users were checking their inbox as often as 30 to 40 times per hour!
Now this last statistic alone could be seen as a distinct advantage when planning the next email marketing campaign – one is bound to get through to be seen. And they frequently do – but do they get read? Software tracking systems can provide the answer but if the target recipient is stressed, then no amount of SEO keyword baiting and cleverly placed, eye scan friendly content is going to work. Not by themselves.
Devising online marketing strategies means also knowing the right time with the right content to send, tailored to each individual targeted niche.
It’s time well spent to go through your target client lists and then find out who and when is best – and why! A little insider knowledge can make all the difference. Sending the email first thing in the morning or end of the day tends to work better than most other times, but you may still have to repeat as work schedules vary from company to company.
Remember – online marketing means you are competing with the world wide web for attention!
