Website Designers – Choosing the Right One !
There are an endless number of website designers out there now, but choosing the one that really knows how to understand your business and achieve the results you need for sustained growth is based on more than the home page look!
Sure – you want your site visitor to be instantly impressed when they arrive at your home page but remember, a great ‘website experience’ is all about the level of engagement. Today’s website design has to satisfy many different criteria, the most important being firstly, website accessibility followed by easy to follow site navigation and information finding, for both visitor and search engines alike.
Ultimately, the look of a site is tied in with online brand design – a vital aspect to defining and establishing your brand identity, but still it is only one of the many ingredients which contributes to a successful web presence. Poor ‘user’ experience will undermine all design efforts and hard work.
The key is the relationship you develop with your designer. A good level of communication is essential otherwise very little positive progress can be made because of basic differences of perceiving and understanding each other’s requirements. Requests for instant feedback, prompt and efficient actions and results on both sides may need to be adjusted by being sensitive to each other’s daily schedules and preferred means of contact.
You must want the same things too! Some web designers may have their own agenda to further develop their portfolio or trial new design software. They should be focused on your business objectives and sharing your agenda and values. A good web designer is proactive – they will suggest ideas and not just respond to yours. Most importantly, they will include you in the design process whilst at the same time, you promptly update on last minute changes!
Truly successful websites receive ongoing investment and that means working in long term partnership with the web designer. A site will need to change and evolve with a regular website refresh. You only sustain presence in your specific market niche by tweaking and improving to make it more effective by building on past work rather than a periodic but time consuming complete redesign.
Maintaining commitment and enthusiasm about your online business objectives, rather than a web designer viewing your site as a one off project, gives you a solid reassuring foundation to confidently invest in your site and continually build your relationship through the sharing of the journey.
